Load Up Pantry in Wall Street Journal - Do you really buy this?

This is very unusual article(free) published in Wall Street Journal on April 21st, 2008 about rising food price.

What makes me more canny about this is that there is enough supply of rice in US. I agree that the world wide demand for rice and food items have increased but US is producing around twice the amount of rice required by some 300 Million people in US. Excess is always exported.

This seems that the so called "intelligent people" on the Wall Street are trying to create a panic in food market and drive the price up to make some good profits.

Food prices will rise because of inflation but hoarding food and packing up pantry aren't the solutions. This will unnecessarily drive the prices up only to fall later as there is enough food in the US.

I don't buy the arguments in the Wall Street article. Do you?
