Gifts for Holidays During the Weak Economy

Holiday seasons are approaching fast and everyone would soon spend some money buying gifts for friends and family. But given the weak economy, higher job losses and households fighting to survive in these bad times it's very obvious that people wouldn't splurge on gifts this season.

But when it comes to buying gifts for the immediate family member (spouse and kids) we tend to ignore the economic conditions. We always want to give something special to our spouses and kids. But wait a min. What's that something special?

It's very subjective as every person's interest is very different. We can't generalize the top pick for everybody.

But there is something that is very important to everybody from kids to adults and that's money education.

I always wonder why we are not taught how to manage money and finances in our schools. Money and finance related decisions and choices are difficult to make without guidance because of their complexities.

It feels like a scam put together by the government and the financial world to make things too complicated to understand for general people forcing them to pay through their noses to the financial advisers.

Why not gift your child and your sweetie the gift of money education? You can sign your kid or your spouse up for a finance workshop or money education classes local to your area and they are not as expensive as paying your financial adviser.

At least your gift would enable them to think financially and make simple decisions like saving and investing in IRA, 401K etc. without wasting their hard earned money on advisers.

Give your child a book that would educate her about money, stock, funds etc. You child need not go to college and work before she can delve into money matters. She can make her money work for her harder and harder with the knowledge she would get from your gift.

What's the point of stacking one more soft toy or one more story book? Why not gift them something that would last with them forever. Something good with value; something like a meaningful gift.
